The Salon
Number 18 Ludgate has an interesting little history. It was originally opened in the early 1900s as a family run bakery called
"The Ludgate Gold Medal Bakery" which was a thriving
local business for the Shelton family until at least the 1950s.
Since then it has been a popular hairdressers for many years,
but it was time to give it a bit of a makeover.

Our Plan
The salon has had a full refurbishment, inside and out, and we are working hard
to make it something a bit special and different for Tamworth.
The building has been restored back to something
more in keeping with its Victorian/Edwardian roots,
which included reinstating a traditional style timber shopfront
and adding some vintage decor and heritage colours
that give a little nod back to it's history.
It is a fully equipped modern salon, but full of vintage charm.
We want everyone to feel welcomed, relaxed, and pampered at every visit.
With its vintage vibe, top-notch tea, fresh bean coffee,
and biscuits, plus a well-stocked library of books
for you to flick through while you wait - you might never want to leave!
And on some visits, you might even find an extra little surprise
treat waiting for you, just as our way of saying thank you for
supporting this local business.
So, if you like the sound of what we're offering and would
love to be a customer of eighteen, please spread the word to any
experienced and talented self-employed hairdressers or beauticians
you know who can help make this the best salon in Tamworth!
We are putting together a little history book of the salon and the local area,
which we think will be something interesting for customers to have a look through
when they visit the salon.
If anyone has any knowledge, photos, stories, or artefacts related to
number 18 Ludgate - whether it's about the original bakery
and the Shelton family who ran it from the early 1900s to the 1950s,
or about its life as a salon from the 1960s onwards -
we would love to hear from you!
We would also love to learn more about Ludgate, the Leys area
in general, and the little community that has been here over the last 100+ years.
So, if anyone has any knowledge, photos, stories, or artefacts of Ludgate and the surrounding area of The Leys, we'd love for you to get in touch!
